This is an introductory course on the development of Vietnamese communities in the United States, with particular focus on Orange County’s Little Saigon community. This course will engage you in examining the demographic, social, and economic trends and issues confronting contemporary Vietnamese American communities. We will use the contextual lenses of race, ethnicity, culture, class, gender, sexuality, and religion to explore the major issues affecting Vietnamese Americans, including topics such as immigration, resettlement and adaptation, labor, discrimination and racism, community development, individual and social identity, family and generational issues, education, health, public policy agendas, political participation and activism, media representation, and knowledge and cultural production.
The interviews in this collection have shared copyright between the interviewers, narrators, and the Vietnamese American Oral History Project, UC Irvine.
