Description
Scope/Content: An oral history with Mr. John Pham, born in 1983 in Biên Hòa, Vietnam. After assisting the US military and placed into refugee camps, his father was sponsored to Montclair, California along with Pham’s nine other siblings from 1970s to 1980s. He and his mother were later sponsored to Montclair, California when he was 10 years old. He discusses the culture clash and language barriers he had going to middle school. He also describes his curiosity for different cultures and emphasizes the importance of understanding his own identity and Vietnamese roots. He earned his B.A. in Philosophy at University of Iowa in 2005. He is currently a social worker for Loma Linda Hospital at Montclair, California. He enjoys playing basketball with his friends and is involved with a Roman Catholic Church in Ontario, California. He currently lives in Montclair, California.
