Description
Scope/Content: An oral history with Ms. Lan Phuong Duong, born in 1972 in Saigon, Vietnam. In 1975, shortly before the Fall of Saigon, she and her family were taken by ship to Guam and then flew to Butler, Pennsylvania. After five years there, she and her family moved to San Jose, California. She talks about her high school experience including facing racism and being involved with gangs. In addition, she discussed her memories of being an undergraduate student at UC Santa Cruz and a graduate student at UC Irvine. She teaches in Southern California and is involved in VAALA (Vietnamese American Arts & Letters Association) and other arts organizations. She lives in Silver Lake, California and is married with one son.
Scope/Content: This recording is from the Tram Le Oral Histories subcollection.
Scope/Content: July 7, 1975, Butler, Pennsylvania. An article in the local newspaper about the narrator and her family arriving at the airport in Pennsylvania. Her siblings include Khanh Duong, Tran Duong, Huong Duong, Thuy Duong, Ly Duong, and My-Le Duong.
