Description
Scope/Content: An oral history with Ms. Đỗ Huyên Châu, born in 1948 in Trảng Bàng District in the province of Tây Ninh. She had a comfortable and peaceful childhood and attended the University of Saigon when she was still in Vietnam. She became an English teacher, teaching at the Vietnamese-American Association, a private, non-profit cultural and educational organization in Saigon. Ms. Đỗ met her husband at a memorial, and the two started a family together. After April 1975, however, her family was in turmoil as all of the men in her family were sent to re-education camp, and her mom was killed by a stray bullet. In 1992, her family was sponsored to America by her brother-in-law. When she got to the US, Ms. Đỗ rebuilt her life and returned to school to continue her teaching career as a preschool teacher. She is now retired at the age of 66. She has 3 children and currently resides with her husband in Baldwin Park, California.
