Description
Scope/Content: An oral history of Mr. Trung Duong, born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1973. He was only an infant during the Vietnam War; his father was a tugboat captain with the South Vietnamese Army. After the fall of Saigon, his father was sent to a concentration camp where he would spend his next few years with only his mother and sister. When his father was released, Trung and his father escaped Vietnam in 1983 leaving his sister and mother behind. They were on a boat for 6 days and 5 nights before reaching a refugee camp in Malaysia. He stayed in Malaysia for three months before moving to the Philippines to learn English. He then describes how he and his father lived in Virginia for a month before moving to California, where his father found a job working at a print shop. He worked as a paperboy while attending school. After high school, he attended the University of California, Irvine as a biology major from 1991-1994. Mr. Trung Duong currently lives in Irvine, California with his wife and two children.
